Yuan linwang, born in 1973, Ph.D., and Professor. Vice President of Nanjing Normal University, and Director of the Key Laboratory of Virtual Geographic Environment under the Ministry of Education. A recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, elected to the New Century Excellent Talents Program of the Ministry of Education, the Young and Middle-aged Academic Leader of the Blue-Sky Engineering of Jiangsu Province, and the Leader of the Excellent Innovation Team of Higher Education Institutions in Jiangsu Province; concurrently serving as the Director of the Council of the China Society for Surveying and Mapping, Deputy Director of both the Academic Work Committee and the Science and Technology Evaluation Working Committee of the Chinese Geographical Society, Deputy Director of the Employment Guidance Working Committee of the China GIS Association, President of the Jiangsu Geographical Society, and President of the Research Association of Information Technology in Higher Education of Jiangsu Province. Mainly engaged in research on the theory and methods of GIS, he has led seven national-level projects including the National Natural Science Foundation’s Outstanding Youth Fund and major programs, key R&D subjects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 863 projects. He has published over 100 papers in domestic and international journals, authored three monographs, participated in the compilation of two national standards, and been granted five patents for inventions at home and abroad. Recipient of numerous awards for teaching and scientific research, such as the First Prize of Natural Science Awards by the Ministry of Education, the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Jiangsu Province, the First Prize of National Geospatial Information Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of National Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology Progress Award, and the First Prize of Excellent Teaching Achievements in Jiangsu Province. He is also a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the ‘Journal of Asia Geography’ and an Editorial Board member of ‘Acta Geodaetica et Cartographica Sinica’, ‘Resources Science’, and ‘Journal of Nanjing Normal University (Natural Sciences Edition)’.
